CORON: Mt. Tapias, Palawan
Just after depositing our luggage in our hotel rooms, we climb this 700 steps to Mt. Tapias. A 30 minute walk from the bottom hill will get you atop this little mountain where a huge steel cross is proudly standing. Where it’s like this cross is watching and guarding the beautiful island.
It was quite an effort going up the summit, but there’s a place to rest while you’re on your way up there. There are benches and small roofs on your way up just in case you run out-of-breath. And of course, you can always sit on the steps or rest and take a good look of the place if you wanted to.
Getting on top gives you a spectacular view of Coron. It’s almost like a 360 degree view of the place. Plus the wind up there is so calming and refreshing that all the stress that your body experienced will be forgotten.
We rested for a while in this little hut at the right side of the Cross where we waited for the sun to set. While taking pictures and joking around at the same time seeing this wonderful view is just… Priceless.
The cross are supposed to be light up at night there. But the place experienced a brownout so we have to hurry back down. Since, climbing down with no lights to guide you is not a walk in the park.
